Therapy FAQs

  • Psychologists specialize in providing psychotherapy — not medication. If I think you would benefit from psychiatric medication I will be happy to coordinate care with your medical professional.

  • We accept Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Also, many health insurance plans offer “out of network” coverage.

  • Therapy is an allowed expense on most Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts/Arrangements (FSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA), and Cafeteria Plans. If your employer does not provide one or you are self-employed you may be able to open your own HSA which you access using an HSA debit card. Consult a tax professional for specific recommendations.

If you have “out of network” coverage you may be able to submit your claims yourself to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Therapy, assessment, and life coaching start at $155 per session. See Rates | Services.

  • I provide therapy for young adults (18+), adults, and seniors.

  • A psychologist is a doctor of psychology and has the most extensive education and training in the science of psychology. Psychologists provide psychotherapy and psychological assessment to clients.

A psychiatrist is a doctor of medicine who has completed a residency in psychiatry. Psychiatrists prescribe psychiatric medication, and occasionally provide psychoanalysis or psychotherapy.

Social workers and mental health counselors have master’s degrees and provide counseling or family therapy.

Marriage counselors provide marriage or couples therapy only and are not permitted to diagnose or treat mental health problems in Florida.

  • All sessions are via secure online telehealth video therapy. Telehealth sessions are the fastest growing method of providing healthcare. Last year alone, 26.3 million people received virtual mental healthcare (2020, NAMI.org)!

Video counseling sessions are a convenient way to connect from any web-enabled device — smartphone, tablet, laptop, and computer. To start your session, just click on the link emailed to you.

Save the drive time and skip the waiting room! Video therapy sessions easily fit into lunchtime at work, in between childcare, and any available time in your busy day.

The high satisfaction rate of my clients with telehealth has convinced me that it is no longer necessary to require clients to attend sessions in person.

  • Sessions are typically scheduled weekly. Over time with improvement, session frequency may be decreased to every other week or less. Conversely, if you are in crisis you may need to be seen several times a week.

  • You may start to feel some relief almost immediately. To obtain lasting improvement may take several sessions or longer. The important things in life are seldom resolved by a quick fix and deserve the appropriate amount of care and attention.

  • Although you may begin to get results within the first few sessions, many clients choose to attend therapy sessions for several months or more. Clients choose to remain in therapy after their original issues are resolved because they recognize the tremendous self-growth and benefits they derive from therapy.

It’s important to me that you are getting the results you want, so I’ll check in frequently to make sure you’re getting what you need from our work together. If you are not getting what you need I’ll modify what I’m doing to help you get better results.

  • To provide each client with the time and attention they deserve, I only accept a limited number of clients. To ensure optimal results, I’ll help you determine if we are a good match before scheduling. Contact me to inquire about current openings and waiting list times.

  • Choosing a psychologist is an important decision. Allow yourself adequate time to determine if a psychologist is a good fit for you. Talk with them. Ask them questions. If all feels right, schedule a few consultations with them before committing to the time and effort required for successful therapy.

The first step is to call or email me for a free 15 minute consultation. I’ll answer your questions and help you determine if I’m the right psychologist for you.

Next, if all is right, I will set up an initial consultation. The first approximately one to three consultations will give us the chance to get to know each other. I will learn more about you and the issues you’d like help with. It gives you the opportunity to see what working with me is like.

After the first few consultations, if we are a good fit for therapy we will schedule regular sessions. If I don’t think I’m the best psychologist for you I will refer you to someone who might be better for your particular issues. The time spent consulting will be valuable whether or not we continue. You will gain a better understanding of the experience of therapy, valuable feedback on your issues, and an informed decision on the most helpful direction for you to proceed in therapy.

Therapy can be a wonderful and powerful resource in your life. Give yourself the time to choose a psychologist with whom you are comfortable. The quality of your relationship with your psychologist has a big impact on the effectiveness of therapy.

  • You are not obligated to continue consultations or sessions. You always have the option to end therapy at any point in the process for any reason. I will gladly refer you to someone else if you request it.
